AWA Charities – Celebrating Community & Summer!
In a world of so much confusion, we are grateful for the opportunities that we have had over the last few months to sponsor two incredible charitable events, and be involved in some new normalcy. In mid-June we had our second annual CannonBlob Triathlon, and the last weekend of June we sponsored a drive-in movie night featuring “The Sandlot”. Here are some highlights from both events.
This event looked a little different this year as we adapted to state and local recommendations for COVID-19, and moved this race to be completely virtual. We raised just under $3,000 for CAPSA throughout the race.
This was an opportunity for individuals, and families of all skillsets to participate and support families in our community that have been affected by COVID-19. Specifically, families that have been affected by domestic violence during the Coronavirus pandemic. CAPSA shelter clients have increased by 50% and crisis calls have doubled. All while trying to navigate and adapt to COVID-19 safety and health concerns.
It was amazing to see the community rally around this event. Our triathlon was supported by 12 other local businesses, and had over 1,378.6 miles tracked from all participants. It was another great display of unity, and support from our outstanding community.
Drive-In Movie Event
We had over 100 cars attend the event, and raised just under $1,000 for Jump the Moon Foundation, a nonprofit organization that offers art-making opportunities to individuals with disabilities here in Cache Valley. We have had requests for a place to make additional donations to Jump The Moon, and you can now do so by visiting: https://www.awacharities.org/store/p2/makeadonation.html.
Not only was this a great fundraising opportunity, it was a great opportunity to get out and be with our friends and neighbors again (even if we had to stay 6 feet apart). We showed “The Sandlot” as a celebration of summer. We were grateful to all those who attended, and look forward to having another drive-in movie event later this summer.
We are very grateful for the support of so many of you who participated, donated and attended these events! It isn’t possible for us to provide for these organizations the way we have been able to, without your generosity.
