In 2020 Dylan Nielson, Director of Compliance and Trading at Adams Wealth, and his wife Lauren welcomed a new baby boy, Heath. Heath spent just under 50 days at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, with 10 of those days being spent in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
“When Heath was in the PICU it was really hard to leave him because things can change so rapidly so we were basically camped out at the hospital for those couple days,” Dylan shared.
He continued, “This makes it hard for parents to go get items for their kids because they can’t really leave, so that is where the Amazon Wish List comes in.” Primary Children’s Hospital has put together an Amazon “Wish List” or list of needed items that can be purchased and donated to the hospital. Often if you have a child in the PICU, they have been transported there via ambulance or life flight so typically parents come to the hospital with next to nothing. Most of the time, they do not have time to go home and a pack a bag with children essentials like clothes, toys, binkies, etc. The Wish List consists of items such as these, that are needed by so many families who come to the PICU every day.
After their experience, Dylan and Lauren knew they wanted to find a way to get involved and give back. “While in the PICU, Heath was given a swaddle blanket and a stuffed animal. Even though these seem like small things they can really be uplifting when so many negative things are happening,” Dylan explained. So, Dylan and Lauren with the help of their family members, and joining forces with Adams Wealth Advisors, donated close to $1,500 that was used to purchase 365 different items. These items included rattles, swaddle blankets, clothes, teething toys, clothes, sensory balls, books, and other toys. In fact, they ended up buying just about the entire Amazon Wish List for the PICU! According to the gift coordinator at Primary Children’s Hospital, they are the only people that she knows of to buy the entire unit Wish List.
“I know how it is to be on the receiving end of these gifts and it just seemed right to repay the favor. We plan on doing this annually, so it is great to have the firm’s support!” Dylan stated.
This was a wonderful experience for all involved, and we were grateful for the opportunity to support the Nielson family and the amazing PICU unit at Primary Children’s Hospital.
